Birth Doula in Newbury

Calm, steady support for your pregnancy and birth

As your birth Doula, my support will carry you through pregnancy and the birth of your baby/ babies. We will work together closely in pregnancy, ensuring you feel calm, informed and ready for birth, and really feel like I am here supporting you on your journey. We will get to know each other really well, so that you feel totally at ease and comfortable with me, and I truly understand how best to support you.  Throughout your birth I will be a calm, reassuring presence on your side and by your side, helping you navigate any decision making and offering you physical and emotional comfort. I will also be able to support your partner as they navigate this life changing event, and offer them practical and emotional support. After your baby has been born, I will help protect your space and bonding, assist in establishing those first feeds and skin to skin, and come and help you settle in at home. From the moment you book me I will be part of your support system, and help to make this a memory you will cherish.

I offer birth doula support in Newbury and surrounding areas across Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire. I support women and families who want to feel calm, informed and genuinely held throughout pregnancy, labour and those first early days.

My role isn’t to take over.
It isn’t to replace your midwife.
It isn’t to push a “perfect birth” narrative.

It’s to protect your confidence.
To help you feel safe, seen and heard.

What It Means To Have a Doula

As your birth doula in Newbury, I provide continuous emotional and practical support before, during and after your baby’s birth.

Unlike clinical staff, I remain by your side throughout your labour. I am there just for you and your partner — offering reassurance, information, comfort techniques and a calm, grounded presence.

This might look like:

  • Helping you understand your options clearly

  • Creating space for informed decision-making

  • Physical comfort measures in labour

  • Supporting your partner so they feel confident too

  • Protecting your birth environment

  • Staying steady when things feel intense

I support hospital births, home births, inductions, epidurals, caesarean births and VBACs. There is no “right” way to give birth. There is only your way, and I am here as a non judgemental, bias free to support you on your journey.

Doula Support Across Newbury & Beyond

Although I am based near Newbury- in the lovely village of Kintbury, I provide birth doula support across:

  • West Berkshire

  • North Hampshire

  • Wiltshire

  • Oxfordshire

If you’re unsure whether I cover your area, just ask. If I can get to you calmly and reliably when labour begins, I’m happy to travel further afield- into London and the South Coast.

Many of my clients are birthing at local hospitals including Royal Berkshire Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and the Great Western Hospital — as well as planning home births throughout the region.

After Birth

Your birth matters. And so does what comes next.

During your postnatal visit, we gently reflect on your experience. We talk through your birth story. We check in emotionally. We support feeding and those first adjustments to motherhood. I can help you settle in at home, answer any questions you might have, and check you are eating, drinking and resting.

“Daisy is amazing. Her hypnobirthing course completely changed my mindset from being quite apprehensive to excited about birth. It was a great mix of techniques for staying calm, detail about the physiological process of birth, and evidence based information and how to have positive discussions with midwives etc to get the best birth possible for you. Highly recommended whether it is your first birthing experience or not.”

Essential, balanced and modern birth preparation for every family, for every type of birth.

“In summary, Daisy’s experience of local hospitals, understanding of maternity care and clear love of childbirth made her an untiring force for good. Her unwavering support ensured we had a positive and successful birth, despite changes to preferences.
Any father preparing for childbirth will agree, the costs quickly mount. My recommendation would be to save money by buying items such as cots and prams second-hand. Invest money in Daisy’s hypnobirthing class and Doula support. Unlike a cot or pram which will be discarded in 6 months, Daisy’s hypnobirthing classes and Doula support are a lasting investment and exceptional value for money.”

“Daisy was our first and only choice for support.
In the days leading up to the induction, Daisy spent time taking through our birthing preferences, contents of our hospital bag and likely contingencies. Daisy was thorough and reassuring throughout. As a first-time father I found this extremely helpful, reassuring and informative.
On the morning of the induction, Daisy arrived at the hospital within minutes of us, helping to support my wife, ensuring our surroundings were comfortable and keeping my wife calm, informed and reassured. Daisy additionally found time to record the frequency and duration of contractions as well as assisting my wife with walking up and down some stairs to encourage natural progression of labour (photo attached).
After 12 hours my wife had dilated enough that we were taken through to the birthing room. Whilst I repacked the bags, Daisy remained with my wife, before helping to carry them through to the delivery room for us. I found her ongoing support throughout this early stage very reassuring.
Throughout active labour, Daisy provided continual support to my wife, helping with breathing techniques and positioning. When my wife’s heart rate monitor kept slipping off, Daisy stepped in to help reposition and reset it. When midwives came in to ask questions or offer additional procedures, Daisy ensured that we understood our options and asked relevant questions. Despite practicing in the preceding weeks, at 2am, when it came to fitting the TENS machine, I did not have the capacity, so Daisy’s calm and steady hands effortlessly took over. When I started to become tired from physically supporting my wife during the contractions, Daisy stepped in.
As the labour progressed, plans changed and Daisy supported us to remain calm and ensured that we were informed about our options. My wife chose to have an epidural, and Daisy was on hand to read out the paperwork, reassure and physically support during the process. During the pushing phase, when my wife began to tire and progress slowed, Daisy gave continual reassurance, encouragement and positive affirmations. Once the baby was finally born, Daisy worked to ensure our wishes for immediate skin-to-skin contact with our daughter were fulfilled.
A week later Daisy visited us at home for a follow up session. This was an extremely helpful opportunity to discuss the birth, answer questions and bring closure to what had been an extremely busy and exciting previous week for both me and my wife.
In summary, Daisy’s experience of local hospitals, understanding of maternity care and clear love of childbirth made her an untiring force for good. Her unwavering support ensured we had a positive and successful birth, despite changes to preferences.
Any father preparing for childbirth will agree, the costs quickly mount. My recommendation would be to save money by buying items such as cots and prams second-hand.
