Being Pregnant in a Heatwave
Is no joke! Trust me- I’ve managed to hit a heatwave with all 3 of my pregnancies and it can feel intense.
You may be struggling to cool down, stay comfortable and to sleep. Not ideal at any stage of pregnancy.
Other that spending the day in your fridge, there are somethings that can make being pregnant in a heatwave slightly more bearable. Read on for my top tips.
Tops tips for coping with a heatwave in pregnancy:
- Hydrate! This one is important- drink plenty of water and fluids to prevent dehydration. Your pee should be pale yellow.
- Snack on water based fruit- watermelon and melon are high in water and super refreshing.
- Wear loose fitting, light clothing.
- Put a bottle of frozen water infront of a fan.
- Nap- you may find it difficult to sleep over night, so rest when you can. Lie on your left hand side with that fan going, and rest.
- Have cool showers as often as you need.
- Reduce your time outside and in the sun, especially over the hottest part of the day. Or find a lovely shady spot that has a nice breeze.
- Put your feet in a bowl of cold water.
- Get those feet up as needed!
- Run your pulse points under cold water if you need to cool down quickly.
- Put wet flannels and face cloths in the freezer to pop on your face and back of your neck.
- Keep your curtains closed during the day, especially in the bedroom to help keep it cool.
- Put face mist and body creams in the fridge.
- If you’re struggling to sleep, pop on your hypnobirthing tracks and feel yourself relax.
Although the NCT state here that there is no evidence to suggest that pregnant woman get hotter during pregnancy, I think we can all agree being pregnant in a heatwave can be uncomfortable. Remember to take it easy, and use as many of the above tips as you need.
